Following the capture of Camp Zero which is the strong-hold of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa Forest, Abubakar Shekau has been reportedly sighted at Kala-Balge area. Fun seekers in the early hours of Monday scampered to safety after armed robbers stormed the Calabar Christmas Village while a popular Nigerian musician, Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kiss Daniel, was performing. The Super Falcons have released the African Women Cup of Nations trophy they won to the Federal Government. Nigeria’s senior female national team, had embarked on a sit-in protest at their Abuja hotel, over the failure of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to pay their outstanding bonuses and allowances. They held on to the trophy they won in Cameroon and also refused to vacate their hotel. However, after the FG released funds for them to be paid, they have finally released the cup. The Federal Government has declared Monday, December 26 and Tuesday, December 27, 2016 as well as Monday, January 2, 2017, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and 2017 New Year celebrations respectively. The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government on Wednesday in Abuja. He urged Christians and Nigerians in general to remain committed and supportive of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari “in his sustained efforts towards building a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.” The minister, in a statement by the acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and peaceful co-existence across the country. “The minister wishes Nigerians at home and abroad a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year 2017,” the statement said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has said that the Nigerian Army would establish cattle ranches in almost all the divisions. Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Army Logistics, Major General Patrick Akem, stated this on Tuesday at the Commissioning of Mogadishu Cantonment New Mammy Market (former Abacha Barracks), Abuja. The Army Chief disclosed that in keeping up with modern cattle rearing tradition, he sent officers of the Army to Argentina to look at how cattle were reared. “Argentina has a population of 41 million people, but it feeds about 400 million people around the world with its beef. “To take it to the next level, we want to adopt a system where the cattle are not just free ranging coming from Sokoto to Port Harcourt, thereby making their meat tough to eat, the products will soon be coming from our own farms and ranches,” Buratai said. Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said that his first contact with recession was in 1989, but pointed out that the country survived it. Fashola was speaking at the special Town Hall Meeting in Abuja, organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture. He called on youths not to despair and assured that “there is light at the end of the tunnel”. No fewer than 140 Nigerians, who were deported from Libya, arrived in the country on Tuesday through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta, Ogun State on Tuesday confirmed the death of a Nursing staff to Lassa fever, while two others have been placed on observation. The victim reportedly died last week after battling with the sickness, which is also known as Lassa hemorrhagic fever (LHF). Some officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps have threatened to start obtaining bribe from motorists if they were not paid their November salaries and allowances before Christmas. The aggrieved officials, who spoke with Punch, said the Federal Government had refused to offer any explanation for the non-payment. The Rivers State government has denied an audio recording released by Sahara Reporters alleged to be that of Governor Nyesom Wike, calling it a technological contraption. Many have listened to the audio recording, and a voice purportedly of Governor Wike is heard in a telephone conversation arranging payment to some persons who are supposedly officials of INEC in exchange for their help in rigging the recently concluded legislative elections in the state. There were also clear threats that they won’t leave Rivers State alive if they fail. Shkodran Mustafi has been ruled out for the remainder of the year with a hamstring injury, Arsene Wenger has confirmed. A man has left many holding their heads in unbelief after he was caught doing a most unthinkable thing ever in a public place. A 28-year-old man, identified as Anil Kumar has been arrested by the police. The Indian man was caught having s*x with a woman’s dead body in New Delhi’s Sunlight Colony on Sunday. According to India Today, a passer-by on Ring Road saw the man r*ping a woman and alerted Sunlight Colony Police Station at around 3:45pm. Upon arrival, police caught the man in act and realised the woman was actually long dead. The 28-year-old necrophiliac has been identified as a contractor named Anil Kumar. Kumar has reportedly denied to have killed the woman, who is yet to be identified. He told the police that he had been intimate with her the day before he was caught as well. He claims she was alive then. Police believe the woman, aged 25-30, was kept under incarceration and murdered by Kumar some time between late Saturday night and Sunday morning. In the wake of the death and burial of Ifedolapo Oladepo, who died at the NYSC orientation camp Kano on Tuesday, after camp officials allegedly took her illness as pretense to avoid going for parade, her mother has taken to social media to grieve. Before her death, Ifedolapo was reportedly a First Class graduate of Transport Management from the Ladoke Akintola university of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. She was buried yesterday in Osogbo, Osun State.
