Three weeks in a strange land.
Yobe state (know to be called pride sahel) a land filled with great opportunities ; having International and national boundaries with the republic of Niger in the north and bauchi and jigawa state to the west.
Being posted to yobe state came with a lot of chills and anxiety, I wondered, could this be true?, am I really going to yobe state? tears rolling down my eye. With a deep breath, I consoled my self telling myself that all is well and I must report in camp, nothing spoil. Journey from where I reside to yobe state took two days, what a journey! Walking into postikum after a long journey at past 7pm wasn't a bad feeling, at least, i had arrived my destination. I and some of my potential Corp members who I met at the park headed towards the orientation camp in postikum. We got into the camp and headed straight into the registration point after being thoroughly searched at the entrance. Walking up early in the morning as early as as 4am for morning drills, man o war exercises, o shaking the boos, i do like this........... Parade was not an easy task, coupled with the soldiers punishment (yansh up, frog jump etc.) Hmm..... that is not all talking about the temperature of the sun (39°c-41°c) this is where full blacks are seen. Ask me why? Can you imagine, the sunrises around 5:00am in the morning (it is actually impossible for you to guess the time by the weather in yobe state unlike other states) while the sun sets around 5:30pm in the evening. The climatic features of the state consist of hot and dry seasons for most period of the year.
The camp orientation programme and the swearing in of the Corp members was held on the 23rd and 25th of May, 2017 and was led by the Governor of yobe state and the Director General Brig. Gen s.z Lazare highly represented by hon.tijani Zana com.of youth and sports and Mr Afolabi respectively.
The social night kicked off few days after the orientation. We had different platoons showcase different cultures: hausas igbos yoruba and kanuri dance which is the major culture in postikum yobe. We had drama contest which comprises of Mr macho, miss nysc and the bold and beauty lady, matching Parade competitions was not left behind and also the Carnival day on camp. It was all fun and full of experiences.
Even though it was not an easy task, all glory and adoration be unto the most high for giving us the opportunity to witness the 2017 Nysc programme held in postikum yobe state Nigeria. I want to appreciate my co Corp members that contributed to this writeup, Corp Busayo, Corp Itunuoluwa , Corp favour and finally my legendary platoon 10. I remain my humble self Corp Gbolagade Omotayo and a. K. a BPM.
